The Van Decar Creek Placer occurrence is located approximately 2.7 kilometres southwest of the creeks’ mouth on the Middle River.

The creek drains an area that is underlain mainly by a serpentinized peridotite-dunite batholith of the Permian to Middle Triassic Trembleur Intrusions of the Cache Creek Complex.

During the late 1930s, a small placer operation was in operation for a brief period of time on Van Decar Creek. Nuggets worth 0.50 to 2.00 dollars in the 1930s (0.8 to 3.3 grams) were reported to have been found (Assessment Report 17173).
